They may have been cancelled here there and everywhere over the past 18 months or so but, when they do happen, caravan and camping shows are a monster hit.
The organisers of the 2021 Tasmanian Outdoor Boat and Caravan Show have hailed the show a huge success, saying it was virtually equal for attendance as their last show in 2019.
Event co-organiser Ken Gourlay told the Examiner newspaper that he was thrilled with the number of people that came.
“We are super happy with how the event ran, as it’s been the hardest to organise because of the uncertainty and restrictions but people have followed protocols and shown us their support which was great to see,” he said. “We didn’t know what to expect, so we are pleasantly surprised.”
The event, which happened over the weekend, featured more than 50 exhibitors showing off the latest in caravans, camper trailers, boats, cars and accessories for those seeking their next adventure.
The show has been held since 2013 and organisers say they are already keen for next year’s show.
“Inside the Silverdome was full this year with exhibits and hopefully next year we can expand even more and have some outdoor activities and exhibits,” Mr Gourlay told the Examiner. “Fingers crossed that next year we can have an even bigger show and get even more attendees from the mainland down to Tassie.”
According to the experts, camper trailers and caravans were the biggest hit this year, with many locals looking for the perfect vehicle for a Tasmanian holiday at home. Camper trailers were seen as a budget friendly and compact way to explore the state. Lucky attendees also nabbed prizes and free goodies.
“With many people stuck in their state, we’ve seen a huge increase in the demand for caravans so this event brought a lot of new interest,” Mr Gourlay told the Examiner.
