The caravan and RV manufacturing industry in Victoria has ground to a halt as ‘State of Disaster’ restrictions kick in.
Caravan Industry Victoria has been lobbying government to see if its members might be exempt from the six-week shut down period. However, it was deemed that the caravan and RV manufacturing industry was not a ‘permitted industry’ and would need to remain closed for the six-week duration of the ‘State of Disaster’.
Caravan Industry Victoria’s Chief Executive, Rob Lucas, said the organisation was committed to ensuring its members’ interests were being considered.
“While we are working to keep everyone safe and Covid-free, we all need to be mindful of the long-term effects of the shutdown on members livelihoods which are at stake,” he said. “The Association is very conscious of this and is offering significant support for all members”.
The shutdown will have a knock-on effect for many wannabe travellers who have been eagerly awaiting their new RVs.
One of them is Bob Davis, who had been counting down the days until he took delivery of his New Age Manta Ray Pop-top.
Bob lives south of Brisbane in Queensland and, while he was looking forward to hitting the open road again, he remains philosophical about the new delay.
“My new van is now on hold for a least an extra six weeks and, as I traded my Jayco Journey in, I am now van-less and stuck at home till the new one arrives,” he said. “I don’t have a date yet, so just have to look forward to when Victoria opens up and construction can continue.”
As the state continues to battle a deadly second wave of Covid-19, Caravan Industry Victoria says showing his sort of patience during these difficult times will be important.
“We will bounce back as an industry … we are very resilient,” said Chief Executive, Rob Lucas. “We just want to make sure customers of our members are patient through this difficult period.”
Never, repeat never leave your current caravan with a dealer as a trade in, or pay more than minimum deposit, until such time the new van is delivered – it they go tit’s up you have lost it.
