Another country hotel has decided to let grey nomads stay for free … and they have been overwhelmed with the positive response to the offer.
The team at Victoria’s Stanhope Hotel put up a flyer outlining the offer on Facebook and it has now been seen hundreds of thousands of times.
“If you would like to take advantage of a free overnight stay, there are also free showers available at the hotel but we would appreciate it if you could purchase your meal whilst staying,” it reads. “There is always a friendly smile, cold drinks and home-cooked hot food available on offer seven days a week.”
Publican Mandi Goddard told the Shepparton News that the promise of a clean place to shower is what they’re expecting will draw people in, as most grey nomads and truckies will have their own beds.
“We hear people saying there’s nowhere decent to have a shower when they’re out on the road so we thought we’d offer somewhere clean,” she said. “Then we thought ‘why not do both a meal and a shower’- because we’ve had drivers saying there’s nowhere to get a wholesome meal.
Mandi also hopes it will persuade grey nomads to spend more time in the Goulburn Valley.
“We’re also looking at doing up a bit of a welcome pack to show people what’s in town,” she said. “It’ll only be an A4 page but we want to bring people in and promote the other businesses in Stanhope.”

This is a great positive concept that will reap rewards.
Its not rocket science, just good simple business.
Many outback and regional business could/should learn from this.

Stanhope…where is Stanhope?…never heard of it before….but rest assured I have now…and I WILL find it…i promise, AND I WILL stay, and we WILL buy a meal and some drinks there….well done Stanhope Hotel, if this is your attitude, then I want to visit and stay there…:)

I agree with what Terence said, 10 out of 10 for the initiative. But, whenever a business comes up with a good idea there’s always a dumb arse council to stuff it up!
