The van of the future … sleek, slick and stylish

Published: September 16, 2013

Welcome to the caravan of the future! Setting out to re-invigorate interest in the travel-on-wheels lifestyle in Europe, Knaus Tabbert’s Caravisio is more like a yacht on wheels … with a stack of comfort, luxury and futuristic technology thrown in.

The German designer’s 26’ twin-axle concept vehicle comes with a full-size bathroom, a kitchenette, a retractable rear deck and modular furniture. The rear of the interior opens up to a fold-out deck, and there’s a remote controlled roof to offer weary travellers instant shade.

The futuristic van certainly looks the part, with sleek lines and a gleaming 21st century vibe. And looks aren’t deceiving. All of the equipment, both within and without, are controlled via a

smartphone app. For example, the app can change the look of the rear doors from clear to frosted, allowing them to serve as a projection screen for the ceiling-mounted HD projector.

Apparently, the Carivisio’s designers have even envisioned a mirroring feature that will enable travellers to broadcast the pictures outside, as well as inside, to enable other campers to enjoy the show.

The app can also adjust the air suspension to lower the caravan body to ground level for loading. Oh, and if you’re looking for a place to put your key to gain entry to your new home on the road, forget it. A finger scanner locks and unlocks the Caravisio’s doors. The water management system is controlled via a touchscreen display, and there’s a couple of pedal/electric-powered bikes that will charge up each time you drive.

That aerodynamic shell will maximise fuel efficiency as the Carivisio – and perhaps a few excited grey nomads – cruise down the highway and into the future.

Sadly, there are no claims that this amazing looking caravan will be launching into production any time soon. But do you wish that it was? Which feature or features do you particularly like? Comment below.
