Two caravanners who careered down a steep embankment after skidding on some spilt fuel have survived their terrifying ordeal.
The pair emerged unscathed after the accident on the Midland Highway near Daylesford in Victoria.
Leading Senior Constable Ian Wallace told the Courier newspaper that happened when a car leaving a Mobil service station leaked diesel across the road.
“A car towing a caravan has slipped on this diesel and run off the road and rolled down the hill,” he said. “No one was injured as a result.”
The car which was leaking diesel apparently drove off without realising the crash had occurred.
Two people who witnessed the crash said it was lucky no one was seriously hurt.
“We were driving behind the caravan and didn’t realise why he was slowing down,” a witness told the Courier. “He got down to 60 kilometres an hour and all of a sudden there was smoke and just like that, he was down the hill. Thank God they’re okay.”
Police were cleaning up the spill for several hours.
