It’s been tough, but is this the beginning of the end?

The Covid statistics coming out of NSW, Victoria and the ACT may be pretty grim at the moment, but today has brought a glimmer of hope for those seeking to get back on the road in those jurisdictions.

The NSW Government has unveiled its roadmap to freedom … and caravanning is part of the plan.

Stay-at-home orders for adults who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine will be lifted from the Monday after the state passes the 70% double vaccination target.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the NSW Government had worked with industry to design the plan.

“Our roadmap outlines the freedoms that twice vaccinated people will enjoy once we reach 70% double dose which means a meal with loved ones or a drink with friends is just around the corner,” Mr Barilaro said.

Among a host of promised freedoms when the magical vaccination rate is hit, domestic travel is high on the list. The roadmap says trips to regional NSW will be permitted, and caravan parks and camping grounds can open.

However, the Reopening NSW roadmap makes it clear that only fully vaccinated people and those with medical exemptions will have access to the freedoms.

Masks will remain mandatory for all indoor public venues, including public transport, front-of-house hospitality, retail and business premises.

The roadmap is also subject to further fine-tuning and health advice if circumstances change drastically or if cases within a designated area remain too high.

When NSW hits the 80% double dose target, the government intends to open up further freedoms around international travel, community sport, major events and other areas.

As of today, some 42.7% of the NSW populations are double jabbed. At current rates, the state is expected to reach the 70% fully vaccinated level on October 18.

While the other states and territories are yet to commit to similar opening-up plans at certain vaccination levels, the NSW roadmap does perhaps offer a clue as to the types of steps that might be eventually be taken nationwide towards living with Covid.

It seems likely thought that the jurisdictions that are currently living relatively Covid-free will be a little more conservative in their opening-up plans.

The NSW roadmap was announced against a backdrop of renewed focus on a so-called vaccination passport. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has just asked state and territory leaders how they plan to integrate vaccination certificates into existing check-in apps.

And he has urged all Premiers and Chief Ministers to ‘hold their nerve’ as the country moves towards the next phase.

“We’re focusing on the future, the plan says let’s get jabs in arms,” he said today. “Let’s get Australia open again.”

Across the country, 39.7% of eligible people have had both doses of a vaccine, while 64.6% have had at least one dose.

Unfortunately there are too many anti vaxxers. I know of two in my friends. One says it’s poison design by Bill Gates to reduce the world’s population.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. I am fully vaccinated but. the fear factor raised by our “leaders” is deplorable. On past statistics from the a very basic search in 2018, 158,000 Australians died. In 2019, 163,000 Australians died. The steps that are being taken are to big note the politicians and their Chief Health Officers. Covid deaths have not increased the overall death rates at all. We are being sold a pup. Needing to learn how to wash our hands is a reflection on todays people.
The problem is, while the operation to save lives may be a success, the patient will die. The patient? Humanity.

Sounds like you aren’t a vaccination supporter even though you say you are vaccinated ! My doctor says anyone who doesn’t get vaccinated has rocks in their head and I agree.
