Caravan park vaccination rules ‘difficult to navigate’

Published: November 4, 2021

In perhaps a sign of what lies ahead, caravan parks in Victoria are apparently struggling to interpret and implement the varying Covid restrictions as the state opens up again.

Travellers and holidaymakers have seized the opportunity to get back on the road again, but van parks operators in Victoria say the rules they’re required to enforce have been ‘difficult to navigate’.

While everyone can visit caravan parks in Victoria, regardless of their vaccination status, the same isn’t true of all facilities within the parks.

BIG4 Holiday Parks CEO, Sean Jenner told 3AW Radio that to use some facilities within a holiday park, guests must be fully vaccinated.

“It is difficult and there’s certainly some complexities with the different restrictions in place at the moment … you don’t need to be vaccinated to attend a park,” Mr Jenner said. “Each of our parks are independently owned so they can make their own restrictions but, as a general rule, all guests are welcome but there are some complexities around some facilities, which does make it challenging.”

He said that facilities like indoor pools or gyms or cafes, for example, are still subject to only being available to vaccinated guests.

“Ultimately, everyone is just looking for clarity. We are all certainly supportive of vaccination and people trying to do the right thing by the community,” Mr Jenner told 3AW. “It would be great to get to a place where there’s one rule and everyone can abide by it and we can get on with enjoying our parks.”

3AW Mornings listener Ken said it was ‘a little bit crazy’ that unvaccinated people, who cannot go to the pub, can attend caravan parks.

“I get to a caravan park, I’m double vaxxed, and I find people in there that aren’t vaxxed sharing toilets and showers,” he said.

It certainly seems likely that there will be some issues surrounding the requirements for vaccinations in caravan parks, and the different ways different parks will approach the issue,

Back in September, the owner of a New South Wales caravan park sparked a huge online backlash when he said his park would soon only be accepting guests who are fully vaccinated.

Ric Young, who owns the Curlwaa Caravan Park sitting on the banks of the Murray River, said did not think he was being controversial by taking the step to reduce the Covid risk.

I wonder when this vax absurdity will be just a point in history. The stupidity of forcing an untested drug on humans followed by the inevitable results should have been warning enough to stop it. Apparently not. Unfortunately, skewed personalities in people in high governmental positions have latched on to the thrill felt by all leftist leaders and once they seize a power, you have to cut their hand off, at the wrist, to make them let go. As evidenced by both state and federal directives, it doesn’t matter if Libs or Labor. They feed at the same trough.

Totally agree with you Tony. What’s up with these people? When I was growing up, we had all sorts of vaccinations (polio, TB, etc) – better than catching the diseases.

The TGA approved vaccines are very well tested. Currently over 5 billion shots have been administered world wide under huge amounts of scrutiny. If there had been any systemic issues it would have been well and truly outed by now. It is very safe and effective, but like all medications there are no guarantees. You might feel ill after getting the vaccine, you could get the vaccine and still get ill and still get hospitalized and not take the vaccine and maybe not get ill and maybe not be hospitalized. But, statistically, the probability of having an adverse CV19 outcome after being vaccinated is much much much less than if not vaccinated.

You are so right Greg. I really don’t get why the vaxxed are afraid of the unvaxxed if they are vaxxed. Just being segregated like the powers that be want. United we stand divided we fall. Crazy times.

The key public health issue regarding the unvaccinated is the danger that, once things begin opening up, we could have a large cohort of CV19 sick patients inundating and potentially overwhelming the hospital system. Statistically, being unvaccinated increases your odds of an adverse CV19 outcome requiring hospitalization, breathing assistance and/or an ICU bed, by an order of magnitude. So vaccination, which some people seem to regard as some sort of conspiracy, is simply a common sense response, one that we have undertaken many, many times before (think Polio, Tetanus, etc), to a contagious disease. So the more people that are vaccinated the less impact CV19 will have on our hospital system. I’d imagine some critically ill patient being denied a hospital bed for their (possibly critical) illness because someone who decided not to simply and easily prevent the illness that put them in hospital and tied up that bed, would likely be pretty aggrieved. I know I would be.

I have to laugh when I hear the words “untested drug” in regard Covid vaccines..
Seriously, they are tested and have gone through a range of phased trials, just like many other vaccines.
Time for some to stop embracing conspiracy nonsense.

Greg I respect the views of others, including yours, but I expect others to respect mine. I do not wish to mingle with the less than 20% of unvaccinated people full stop. I expect venues I go to to refuse them entry and if they don’t I will go somewhere else. Simple

As a result of a recent isolation that we had to undergo because of tier 1 person ( who is unvaxed and will not wear a mask) I will support business that enforce the green tick rule. If you dont want to be vaxed or wear a mask fine your choice but don’t bugger up my holidays. Go to a place that supports your belief. I will go to businesses that support my belief in that you have the green tick

If you are vaccinated then what is the issue on who else uses the facilities.
You are not at any more risk of getting covid from someone that is vaccinated than someone that is unvaccinated. Wake up people majority of kids are unvaccinated do we leave them at home, what about the people that cannot get vaccinated. If you have chosen to be vaccinated so you think you are at less risk of getting covid then, leave the unvaccinated people alone, many of them are intelligent people that were probably your Dr, nurse, paramedic or police officer that you will come in contact with if you need help and that you will come in contact with if you go to Coles or Woolies. Do you worry about who is helping you when you have a car accident or heart attack? In the time of need and tragedy these are the people that do not hesitate to help you. Do you worry about who is pushing the shopping cart in the same isle as you? We are too stuck on ripping Australia apart, treating people like they are not worthy of the air we breath. What happened to Australia and coming together? It needs to stop. We are all Australian’s with equal , respect one another and treat others how you would like to be treated.

“You are not at any more risk of getting covid from someone that is vaccinated than someone that is unvaccinated.”

As I say, bring on mandates and force the small majority into seeing the light
NSW is on the right track now having brought forward freedoms for fully vaccinated AND delayed freedoms for unvaccinated

Treat others how you would like to be treated? I’d like to be treated with respect. If everyone was vaccinated, I wouldn’t have to worry about who I pass in the supermarket isle or brush my teeth next to in caravan park amenities. The unvaccinated are being very selfish and disrespectful to the society they live in. Until they show some respect and get vaccinated, they won’t be getting any respect from me. Grow up, do your bit and get vaccinated or f#@& off.

Too late to worry about Australiia been ripped apart, if every Australian Citizen did what was asked of them from our Public Health officials in the first place, we would have had Covid under more control.

So sad the Government has finally divided us. There is now a divide among the Australian People.Vaccinated can still transmit Covid the same as unvacced but have a better out come from the flu possibly.?? Some people like to respect the bodies and what goes in to them. They Have That The Right ..So people Treat all as Equal. They Have the right to live there life as well with there Decisions ,.

I don’t know why people are fearing sharing facilities with people who for whatever reason have not been vaccinated. Being vaccinated does not stop you getting Covid. It does not stop you from transferring Covid. It, apparently, prevents you from getting really sick. Pre-covid if you had the flu vaccine, you had the flu vaccine, you wouldn’t care or know if the person beside you was vaccinated, wouldn’t know, shouldn’t know and shouldn’t care. People are so busy being busybodies in this New World Order.
Seriously, perspective in covid is not being discussed. 20 months in and less than 150,000 infections in Australia. 12 months in 2019, 310,011 people laboratory tested and confirmed with Influenza. 2018, 3009 died of influenza/pneumonia.
Lies, damn lies and statistics
And I am double vaccinated.

Well said Bob, I am sick to death of a perspective that is existing that if vaccinated you cant catch it, cant spread it and wont get ill from it. It is no different to the flu jab, and we did not give hoots about who did or didn’t have it. Its a personal choice about your own protection to lessen the i pact of catching it.

We got vaccinated because we are old, which is the same reason we got the flu vaccination. We also got vaccinated so Dictator Dan would release us from all his lockdowns and so we could travel outside of Victoria.

Ken, I’m sure your vaccination status will keep you safe, aren’t you? I would not do a close-up to a coughing, sneezing or obviously unwell being, vaccinated or un-vaccinated.

Doug

I am in a privately owned little bush setting CVP and the owner was saying just the other day that anyone can come in however, un-vaccinated can’t use amenity blocks, camp kitchens pool etc, only double vaccinated.

She has also notice when people checking in and she gets their details and they scan QR code they voluntary offer their vaccination certificate, She is not asking to see though as not law but not sure how she could police the use of said places.

It would be interesting to know if the antivaxers in the world who have caught covid and ended up on a ventilator are still pleased with their stand.
We have been very lucky in this country unlike overseas where thousands have died. I want to keep living and travelling in my van

Hay John K. not everyone gets covid. At the start all were unvaxed and yes some did get the bug. But certainly not all and that’s still the case. Some folk just have stronger immunity so you bundle them with all others? It’s not an appreciation society, but many are behaving as if it is. Oh, and while you’re at it I would be thoroughly fearful of your fellow van travellers if you want to keep living as most cotangers are from vaxed folk. Please stay in your van and stay alive so you may keep responding to sites such as this.

All unvaccinated people should be locked out of all venues. (All). It is about time we who are vaccinated blacklist any venues that does not enforce this. They can make their income from the less than 20% of fools.

Lynne Stevens

Who cares if someone is or isn’t vaxed? If you are vaxed, why should you worry if someone is not? That makes no sense. If you’re not, well, it is more of a worry that those that are, can spread a virus. I think that everyone should mind their own bloody business!!

I wonder how many of these unvaccinated people were vaccinated as a child against measles, polio, etc. and are free from those diseases of the past. I’ll bet they are happy not to have got those diseases. So why worry now about getting vaccinated. I can’t wait to travel in my van to a safe caravan park. I say “go green tick”.

Vicki C.

I’ve been told by health professionals that the unvaccinated carrying Covid shed more viral particles, the vaccinated shed less. Yes the vaccinated can still get Covid, but suffer less severe symptoms and they’re still contagious and a hazard to those around them.

Wear masks, wash hands and social distance. I believe everyone will get Covid, as everyone gets the flu at some stage of their life. If you’re vaccinated you’re less likely to need ICU care.

Stay safe – Happy Christmas travels everyone. Hug your vulnerable loved ones now. Some of our loved ones can’t be vaccinated because of underlying health issues, don’t put them in the same basket as the antivaxers. I think they will have to do their own isolating from the population as it spreads through Australia. Until there’s an effective treatment they are very vulnerable.

There’s another thing…my wife and I are in our seventies…healthy…AT THE MOMENT. But we’ll need hospitalisation for something one day soon- nothing surer. If these “sovereign citizen” us style loony religious right unvaxed dopes are taking up hospital beds because they’ve got a deadly case of Covid, there will be NO ROOM FOR US. And I’ll be damned angry at them!

Len Sorrell

Okay, so I am twice vaccinated against Covid so if I get it I’m a carrier. Therefore non-vaccinated folk can catch it from me but I may get a sniffle.
If folk want to take the risk it is up to them. In my opinion if I had a Caravan Park my sign at the gate would read; “All Welcome at their own risk.”

It seems that once again people have digressed from the actual topic of how we think the vaccination rules in caravan parks & camping areas will eventually play out?
I don’t think camping grounds etc will have any rules regarding Covid vaccinations but I do think there will be some C/Pks that will only allow fully vaxed. For me if there were 2 C/Pks in a town but only one specifying for the fully vaccinated, I’d most certainly choose that one, no matter what the facilities were like as I travel fully SC & do not need showers & toilets etc. For many of us over 60 with pre existing and/or chronic medical conditions, although we are fully vaccinated, we are at a higher risk of contracting Covid & a higher risk of becoming very unwell, being hospitalised & even dying. To all those people who are so against the Covid vaccinations & of businesses trying to protect their own families & communities by only allowing fully vaxxed, I’d ask have they never been vaccinated against Polio, Tetanus, Diptheria, Whopping cough & a whole range of other vaccinations for overseas travel?

Sandy

How about we stop stressing about who is, or is not, vaccinated against Covid and just get on with life to the best of our ability. In the long run we would be much happier and less stressed. There is a saying “living is a health hazard” so how about we do the best we can with what we have got, and get on and enjoy life.
