A major fire near the popular grey nomad destination of Karijini National Park has prompted authorities to tell residents and tourists to leave the area immediately.
The blaze is burning on an eight-kilometre wide fire front and is heading towards the Tom Price-Paraburdoo Road.
Western Australia’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the fire is out of control and unpredictable, and it has urged people to leave if it is safe to do so. Travellers are being asked to avoid Tom Price-Paraburdoo Road.
The fire, which has been described as of ‘suspicious’ origin, is believed to be a re-ignition of a blaze that started in the southern part of the park on September 16.
Anyone with information about the fire’s cause is asked to contact police.
