The tropical north will feel just that little more special for grey nomads lucky enough to be up there as they glance at some of the more shiver-inspiring temperatures elsewhere.
Queensland’s normally balmy capital, Brisbane, felt more like Tassie for travellers and locals as it recorded its coldest morning since July 2015.
The ABC reports that the city got down to 5.9 degrees Celsius at 5.40am, while Brisbane Airport recorded a minimum of 4.3C just after 5am.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior forecaster Michael Knepp said it was a chilly morning throughout the state.
“This morning Amberley or Ipswich got down to minus point four at the moment, which is the first negative temperature they’ve experienced in almost two years,” he told the ABC. “It is cold throughout much of the state, we’ve got a fairly dry air mass in place so temperatures can cool down quite efficiently during the evening.
Having said that, those hardy caravanners and motorhomers in Tamsania could have only looked on in envy as Brisbane shrugged off its early chill and watched the mercury climb.
“It’s going to be warming up quite nicely today so maximum temperatures will be quite a bit above average throughout most of the state,” Mr Knapp said. “Brisbane will be 26 today. Our average at this time of year is around about 22.”
