Who says you can’t get too much of a good thing?

Most grey nomads love warm weather … but it seems you can get too much of a good thing!

South Australia is experiencing a particularly extreme heatwave at the moment with locals and visitors alike sweltering through sky-high temperatures.

Parts of the state can expect a maximum of 46C in the heat of the day today, and even the nights don’t offer much hope of relief. In Adelaide, the mercury didn’t dip below 28C last night.

As well as the discomfort factor, the searing heat also brings with it an increased risk of bushfire. According to a report on the news.com.au website,  South Australia’s Country Fire Service has declared total fire bans in 14 of the state’s 15 fire districts, with Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East districts considered catastrophic.

In the state’s South East, Mount Gambier is expected to hit a top of 40C, while Naracoorte will be 42C and Robe 36C. Port Lincoln, on the Eyre Peninsula, will be very hot and windy with 40C, Kimba will swelter through 43C and Cleve will see 42C.

On the Yorke Peninsula, Minlaton will hit 40C and Maitland will top 41C with windy conditions.

Besides bushfire, the other major risk posed to grey nomads and other travellers is that of trees dropping limbs.

“Because we haven’t had a long period of heat, trees are not extremely stressed although it has been dry,” SES chief of staff Graeme Wynwood told news.com.au. “We remind people that gum trees do have a habit of dropping branches in this weather, so be mindful of where you park.”

It is currently 42.1 in Rutherglen Victoria. Quite common for here, much more to come, particularly next month

I never think the heat is good but a lot do I could not think of anything as bad as a day at the beach at 40 + I like to be in a air-conditioned RV just like now.
