As many grey nomads will already be well aware, wildflower season is well and truly under way … and it’s an absolute stunner.
In Central Australia, botanists say the region is enjoying its most spectacular floral display in more than a decade. The ABC reports that to the south and west of Alice Springs, fields and fields of millions of yellow native daisies have popped up. They are all different types of daisies from a unique subset of Australian group of daisies, better known as ‘billy buttons’. No two wildflower seasons are the same and these endless fields of yellow may not be seen again for many, many years.
Botanist Peter Jobson says soaking winter rains throughout May are responsible for the spectacular display. “It’s set it off,” he said. “I’m just loving seeing this field of yellow for this year, knowing we may not see it again for years.”
It’s a similar story over in Western Australia which is home to more than 13,000 types of wildflowers and is renowned for having some of the most spectacular floral displays in the world. The West Australian wildflower season runs from June to November.

We are currently in WA, enjoying the colours along the road. Weather permitting the next few days will find us in the Stirling Ranges, hopefully for a good show of colour.
