While a number of caravan parks near the Murray River have been forced to close recently due to the ongoing risk of flooding, the news is not all bad.
Some campgrounds, like the one at Wilks Park in Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, are quickly moving towards re-opening after being inundated with floodwaters earlier this year.
Wagga Wagga City Council will begin to clean up the primitive camping ground in the next few days in preparation for its re-opening. The park had been left closed to adequately dry out following flooding events in October and November,
The clean-up work will include leveling some areas within the park, removing rubbish, and adjusting the temporary levee at the entrance to the park so that caravans can still enter the park while maintaining the levee height.

Wilks Park is a designated primitive camping area with restrictions that include a 72-hour limit on the length of stays, and that any accommodation should be self-contained.
The opening date for the campground is yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, the news Is not so good in South Australia’s Riverland district. The Adelaide Advertiser reports that flow forecasts are expected to surpass 200GL a day by late this month, and that several caravan parks in the region have been forced to close.
On Tuesday, the Riverbend Caravan Park in Renmark was evacuated after the SES determined that the privately-built levee had defects and that floodwaters were a potential threat to park occupants.
Also in Renmark, the BIG4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park closed on Friday. The Advertiser reports that, in a statement posted to social media, the park said staff needed to concentrate on maintaining the levee.
The BIG4 Blanchetown Riverside Holiday Park location is reportedly also temporarily out of operation.
And the Advertiser reports that the Blanchetown Caravan Park closed as well, following days of protective and relocation works.
