A man has been rescued by emergency services after his caravan was overturned by wild winds near Strathalbyn in South Australia this morning.
The man was freed safely and was uninjured.
Elsewhere in the state, a 71-year-old man was killed in Tungkillo when he was hit by a falling tree. It is understood the man had been trying to clear a fallen tree from the road when he was fatally struck by a second tree.
Much of southeastern Australia is being clobbered by wild winds, and the Bureau of Meteorology is warning that this is just the start … with more strong wind, heavy rain and snow to come.
The super cold front has hit South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales and Victoria.
The BoM has also predicted 120km/hr winds for the NSW Alpine regions with snowfalls likely as low as 300m across Victoria. The super cold snap is expected to linger this week with Melbourne set for lows of 5C, Sydney 9C while Canberra can expect a chilly -2C.
“At the moment we are seeing the new surge of cold air coming up from the south and will reinvigorate the region with a new cold front rapidly developing today,” BoM senior forecaster, Jenny Sturrock, told news.com.au. “It is this cold front that is bringing the damaging winds to (SA, VIC, TAS and NSW) and snow as well as very cold temperatures from tomorrow and Wednesday.”

Yes 2010 when the big storms came throughWestern Australia we were at Myalup 120kph winds the sound was deafening, really did sound like a train coming. We were sheltered behind a caravan park office, the wind tore the track off the van but considering the strength of the wind we were lucky that is all that happened.
Don’t forget WA! We spent last weekend in a beach camp area near Geraldton being pumelled around by gale force winds and rain.
We were camped on the Coast in the South Island of N.Z some years back, when a gale blew in through the caravan park, lifted our 22″ up onto two wheels almost onto it’s side, we were lucky that it was heavy enough to come back down again, but the vans on both sides of us were on their roofs when we went out the next morning, never did find our rubbish bin !!!
