A woman who suffered serious burns after her caravan caught fire in northern New South Wales late last week is continuing to be treated in hospital for her injuries.
It is believed the 45-year-old may have been trying to remove a gas bottle from the vehicle when the blaze broke out. The woman, who was travelling alone, sustained causing severe burns to her upper body and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital aboard the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
The caravan was attached to a car and was parked at the Dinjerra Road Rest Area just off the Pacific Highway nar Glenugie when it caught alight in the middle of the day. The car towing the caravan was also damaged by the intense heat generated by the blaze.
About 20 square metres of surrounding bush was also burnt.
The cause of the incident is being investigated by police.
We hope the poor girl survives such horrific burns. Rob J
