The inland New South Wales town of Young is the latest to consider constructing a caravan park. Councillor John McGregor says that a new park at the Chinaman’s Dam site near the town had the potential to draw in extra tourism dollars.
“Young is missing out on $1million a year,” he told a meeting of the Young Shire Council. “There are 50 to 70 caravans passing through the town – why not get them to stay here?”
The Young Witness newspaper reports that the idea drew significant support.
“Other towns have something historical for which they are famous for,” said Cr John Drum. “The Chinese connection to Young is something we need to promote.”
