The Victorian township of Yinnar in central Gippsland has unveiled a free RV stop that it hopes will encourage more grey nomads to stop and spend money in the area.
The stop is located in Main Street and offers travellers easy access to Yinnar’s businesses and facilities, and the Latrobe Valley in general.
It will welcome visitors with self-contained caravans and motorhomes to stay for up to 48 hours. Vans must have their own shower, toilet and water supply. There are a total of eight sites available.
The Yinnar and District Community Association’s (YDCA) says it hopes to install a dump point at the site sometime in the future.
“This RV stop will help entice even more visitors to Latrobe City,” said Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson. “Council hopes that by providing people who wish to camp for free somewhere to stay for a weekend, we can attract tourists who would otherwise have driven through Latrobe City.”
She said the hope was that visitors will now stay in the area for a few days, explore the city and spend dollars in local towns.
“We have seen an increase in people staying in Latrobe City for a few days,” said Cr Gibson. “They are asking about natural attractions such as Morwell National Park, Tarra Bulga, Morwell River Falls Reserve, Lake Narracan and the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail.”
The project has been in the making for several years and is the first community run, free RV stop in Latrobe City.
Thumbs up and a big clap … yay!
Well done. With that attitude they definitely deserve caravaners support.
well done Yinnar , how do you plan to get most that travel on the Princes Highway to go to Yinnar ?
When we can get to travel to Victoria we will definitely come to your village. Great incentive for tourism.
Great little town with attitude is Yinnar. Check out the local pub and you might get a chance to see their impressive local band the Strzelecki String Busters.
Why do you need a shower in a caravan to be considered self contained? We have a portable toilet, water tanks and and a grey water tank. Surely you can have a wash with a bucket of water. Won’t be going out of my way to visit this town.
I doubt that they mean that literally.
Then why state that ” caravans must have their own shower.”
It means that there are no shower facilities. So, if you want a shower, you must have your own.
Zol, I guess it’s a case of not being able “to please all the people all the time”.
It not hard to rig up a shower facility..!
Dosnt matter if its a bit basic as long as it pumps out a spray of water, sud up and rince off…..
and of course you have a bit of cover….no flashing..!!!
We have a shower tent and a camping shower but these are generally not allowed in towns sites, plus you are required to contain your grey water.
Good on you Yinnar. We will be there next trip south.
Best not go there Carol
