Space-hungry grey nomads seeking the ultimate rig upgrade will be thrilled to learn that the world’s largest motorhome (as judged by the Guinness Book of World Records) has just come onto the market.
The German giant weighs in at a whopping 28-tonnes and is 18 metres (59 feet!) long. No price tag has yet been put on ‘Der Bus’ but it’s sure to be nearly as hefty as the truly unique vehicle

The double-decker articulated coach was one of 12 ‘Jumbo cruisers’ built back in the 1970s and could take 140 plus passengers. This, the last surviving one of its kind, was re-modelled and renovated in the late 1990s to make it the undisputed ‘king of the road’.
In the upper deck there is a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, bathroom and guest ‘berths’. In the lower deck next to the driver’s space and eight seats, there is a ‘conference’ compartment, as well as a bar. The rear part is used as a garage and material storage room.
No expense has been spared
Inside the bus, no expense has been spared and there are white leather walls and chromium plated light fittings. The motorhome mansion has a generator, central heating and air conditioning.
And with a water tank capacity of 470 litres, the lucky new owner of this amazing vehicle might never need to stay in a caravan park ever again … not that they would be able to fit into many anyway!
As well as the purchase price, any interested parties would also need to take into consideration the massive fuel costs of doing the Big Lap and then, of course, there’s the cost of getting it shipped over from Germany in the first place.
But, before panicking about the big dollars required to make this monster-sized dream come true, just imagine the look on fellow campers’ faces as you pull up for the night in ‘Der Bus’. You can’t really put a price on that, can you?

This is to over the top large I think half the fun of being out there is the back to basics with as little material stuff as is possible. Being in nature with something this size is enough to frighten off the beauty of nature and all that lives there naturally .

Certainly the ultimate in space and luxury! But….think of all the ‘housework’ required to keep it looking good! One of the best things about carvanning, for me, is how quick and easy it is to keep my little home-on-wheels clean and tidy 😉

Wow, You could take friends away with you and still have oodles of room. I know of a few aging truck drivers and their wives that would gladly start a new lifestyle and be the captain behind the wheel for us while we explored our Great Land Downunder!

Phewt. It’s not that great. Our rig is 18.5 metres long. Bus and trailer, we take the Brunby ute out of the trailer and we have a huge lounge room for 50″ tv lounge suite, music room and art studio. Best of all there’s only room for 2 of us. No hangersons, no kids…. we are live the life.
What a fantastic place to call “Home”. I would happily sell my home to live in “Der Bus”. I would love to be the envy of my friends in such a stunner and would even swap with them to have a holiday with their pets. I would happily show her to the rest of Australia!!
I own a forty foot Mercedes bus and find it is great. I can cruise on 100klm/h all day. Sure, the fuel consumption is high, but at the end of the day!…comfort surpasses this. I have met guys with v8 diesels, towing a big van and our fuel usage is similar. I am 60ft with our car trailer, so driving this one would not be too difficult. I met a fellow once who had one similar and he said it handled beautifully. I don’t think you could get under fuel station canopies and you would duck your head when you drive under bridges!! I would love it .
Clive Palmer would love this in his new political role. Could travel Aussie in his next election campaign. He have no problems in affording it!!!
I am Currently driving buses for a living and drive Artic buses but not double Deckers and I find them just as easy to drivel as a rigid bus. But to tour around OZ in ‘Der Bus’ I don’t think so only because there would be so many places you would not be able to get through, e.g The great Ocean Road in Victoria. But saying that it still is an amazing looking set up.
