Farm and house sitting for three weeks in July 2024, the dates are 29 June to July 21.
Our small farm (90 acres) runs Boer goats and alpacas with chickens as a sideline. We also have 2 Maremma’s who are supposed to look after the chickens and a kelpie who lives in the house. The farm is 20 kms south of Wagga, a short 20-minute drive to town.
Our goats need someone to keep an eye on them, check feeders and feed hay every few days. Alpacas guard the goats. The dogs need feeding and care each day. My house or your van is available for accommodation with access to laundry and bathroom, water and power for van users as needed. The dogs are used to having me around so house sitters would need to be prepared to be at home mostly from Monday to Friday. Short times away during the week would be fine but I’d prefer that the dogs not be penned for hours at a time. The weekends would be free to explore the area when my son can cares for the animals. He lives on the property in a separate home but cannot care for the dogs and goats during the day.
Eggs need to be collected daily and regular checks on food and water for the chickens is needed. We have a few ducks as well as about 40 chickens.
My preference is for someone with experience with farm animals who can keep an eye on them to ensure they stay in good health.
Our house is a solar passive house which is generally heated by the sun but a woodfire is available for the colder times of the day. We are off grid solar powered. We are self-sufficient for water with onsite tanks.
