A couple in their 70s have been airlifted to hospital after a caravan rollover on the Princes Highway near Batemans Bay in NSW.
Police say the accident happened just before midday yesterday when a Toyota Ute towing a caravan rolled.
Two occupants were initially trapped inside the cabin, but the female driver and male passenger, both in their 70s, were successfully extricated by rescue crews.
NSW Ambulance service said the woman suffered significant head, chest, and suspected spinal injuries. The man suffered shoulder and abdominal injuries.
Both patients were stabilised at the roadside before being loaded into two Toll Rescue helicopters. They were flown directly to the trauma unit at The Canberra Hospital in a serious condition under the care of critical care medical teams.
Police established a crime scene after the incident, and launched official investigation into the cause of the crash.
