After a successful trial period, the online booking system for Tasmania’s national park campsites has begun to roll out.
Parks Tasmania says the now-operational mobile-friendly platform will allow visitors to find, book and manage campground bookings in one place, and heralds a more consistent approach to camping fees and bookings.
The first phase of the rollout sees online bookings required for selected campgrounds that already require a booking fee.
These including sites at Narawntapu National Park, Freycinet National Park, Maria Island National Park, Mount William National Park, Mount Field National Park, South Bruny National Park, Arthur Pieman Conservation Area, Peggs Beach Conservation Area, Lime Bay State Reserve, and Fortescue Bay.

Campers will be able to book at a flat rate per site for groups of up to six people. Groups of more than six people will require additional campsites. Previously, campsite booking fees were charged per person.
It is understood this is the first stage of a broader rollout that will bring a range of parks experiences together in one place.
The system will progressively expand to include walking experiences, cave tours, accommodation, parks passes and other products through a single online portal.
Parks Tasmania says many campgrounds across Tasmania will remain free to use and do not require bookings.
Premium powered campsites will be $35 per night, premium unpowered sites $24 per night and standard campsites $18 per night.
Existing rates will be honoured for all previous bookings.
Minister for Parks and Heritage, Nick Duigan, has previously said the system will make a huge difference to everybody.
“This red-tape cutting platform will replace more than a dozen IT systems and manual processes, delivering a simpler customer experience and more efficient processes for staff,” he said.
