There’s been another massive landslip at Inskip Point, north of Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast.
Last September, a nearby campsite at Rainbow Beach was evacuated when a ‘sinkhole’ opened up, swallowing a caravan, a camper trailer, and a 4WD vehicle.
The Inskip Point campsite has remained open after this latest drama … but rangers are monitoring the situation closely.
“The erosion has not affected any campsites and is not affecting access to the barge to Fraser Island,” a Queensland Parks and Wildlife spokesperson said. “It’s likely that this was another occurrence of the natural phenomenon which occurred in September 2015 at Inskip.”
No vehicles or property have been reported damaged during the formation of the new hole.
“It is caused by the undermining of part of the shoreline by tidal flow, waves and currents,” the Parks spokesperson said. “When this occurs below the waterline, the shoreline loses support and a section slides seaward leaving a hole, the edges of which retrogress back towards the shore.”
