A popular Queensland campsite which closed down some three years ago is set to re-open to fully self-contained motorhomes and caravans.
Reports suggest that the Beerwah Sportsground, located about 80 kilometres north of Brisbane, will allow campers to stay for up to three nights.
The re-opening will initially be for a six-month trial and detail of what charges may be levied have yet to be released.
It is understood 12 sites will be available,
A spokesperson for the Sunshine Coast Council said that no timeline had been confirmed for the reopening of the campsite.

“Demolition works at the site are scheduled to commence imminently, subject to weather conditions,” the spokesperson said. “Once these works have been completed and the associated groundworks rectified, council officers expect to be in a position to provide a further update on the project and any potential timeframe.”
Councillor Jenny Broderick says she hopes the campsite will encourage travellers to stop and spend money with local businesses.
She told the Grey Nomads that she appreciated there was strong interest from the grey nomad community in the facility’s future, and would be happy to share further information as it became available.

Why only 12 sites. Our caravan club used to go there. We would on average have 20 to 25 vans there.
