Tasmania’s new National Parks Online Booking System is entering its final testing phase, with a number of popular campgrounds available to be booked online from this November.
Minister for Parks and Heritage, Nick Duigan, said the idea was to make it easier for locals and visitors to plan and manage their trip through a ‘modern, mobile-friendly booking system’.
“From November 3, visitors will be able to book a site at selected campgrounds across the state using the Parks Online Booking System,” he said. “This includes sites at some of Tasmania’s most popular camping destinations: Narawntapu National Park, Freycinet National Park and Fortescue Bay, which already attract a booking fee.”

The minister stressed that many campgrounds across the state remain free to stay and do not require a booking.
“Only those campgrounds that currently attract a fee to stay are included in the first phase of the booking system,” he said.
The new system will be introduced in stages, beginning with campground bookings and expanding over time to include other Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service products and experiences.
The ABC reports that the campgrounds at 10 Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS)-managed areas included in the first phase are:
“Once fully implemented, the system will enable customers to book campsites, walking experiences, cave tours, parks passes and other products through a single online portal,” Minister Duigan said. “This red-tape cutting platform will replace more than a dozen IT systems and manual processes, delivering a simpler customer experience and more efficient processes for staff.”
