Charters Towers, QLD

Housesitters are needed for our home and 2 dogs in beautiful Charters Towers from 12 September – 2 October, 2026,. These dates are flexible.
Our home is a recently completed accessible residence designed for comfortable living in later life. We are retired professionals with 2 dogs and have recently downsized. The house comprises 2 separate 1 bedroom apartments, one for visitors and the larger one is our home. The house is well situated on a corner block with easy access for larger vehicles including caravans, and is an easy walk to the center of town, local parks and the swimming pool.
We have recently completed the gardens which are now well established and supported by an automatic irrigation system, so watering will be minimal.
The house has been designed to be fully accessible with wide doorways and no steps. There are several outdoor areas to enjoy the climate and the garden and a feature fire pit and cooking area for the BBQ enthusiasts.
We are surrounded by wonderful people in this community. Sitters will be supported by a list of friends and resources.
Sitter responsibilities include caring for the place as you would your own…
  • Keeping the house tidy.
  • Watering the garden and harvesting fruit and vegetables for your own enjoyment.
  • Caring for the dogs, Molly and Cosmo.
    • 2 outings per day – dog park and/or walk along Towers Hill.
    • They are family, so they live indoors and play outside. The yard and gardens are fenced, so they can’t do any damage.

What we love about our area

Charters Towers is an historic town with many sites of interest to explore. Owing to it’s location, it has three boarding schools to serve the large properties and students from around the world. The city offers amenities such 2 heated Olympic pools for public use, golf course, beautiful parks and tennis courts. We have three grocery stores to choose from and several medical offices with a small hospital in town if needed.

Our pets

DogsDogs (2)
Our two dogs love to play together in the fenced yard. We generally go for at least one outside walk per day at a nearby dog park or up Towers Hill…they are enthusiastic either way.
Molly (Cattle Collie) is keen on a game of tennis at the dog park while Cosmo (Hound) joins in the fun. They are best friends who love to sleep on their beds in or near our bedroom.
Molly has always been very keen on playing ball and loves tennis balls more than food.
They are fed dry food one time daily in the morning. Their diet is restricted to chicken and veggie kibble because Cosmo is intolerant of other proteins. Plenty of food will be provided, so no worries there.
Molly is good on the leash, although bit guarded with unfamiliar dogs. As a scent hound, Cosmo loves to check out his surroundings along the walk. He is eager to meet other dogs and people, so he is learning to sit when people approach during his walks. This gives them the opportunity to approach him…or not.

Our garden

Average – This is a new build and new garden with mostly well established plants, many grown for the dining table. There are irrigation systems already in place now with more in process, so watering will be automatic. Mowing will be minimal because there are so many plantings and so little grass.
There are various food gardens for your use and enjoyment, currently with pumpkins, limes, salad greens, and more.
