One of many grey nomads’ favourite country events is about to kick back into life in the Outback Queensland town of Julia Creek.
The iconic Dirt n Dust Festival will once again be delivering adrenaline-pumping action, hilarious fun and wild adventures this weeekend (from August 29-31).
The weekend is packed with unmissable and unforgettable experiences like Australia’s best butt competition, an Outback adventure run, the Dirt n Dust rodeo, artesian express horse races, and live concerts under the stars.
This year, the non-stop tunes will come from Homegrown Trio, Tommy Contor & The Western Wranglers, Tyson Lucas and Branded Men to keep the dust dancing well into the night.

Festival President and proud local, Sheree Pratt, says the community can’t wait to throw open the gates after the event was postponed in April due to flooding.
“We are so excited to welcome so many visitors to town,” she said. “For the local community, the festival is a chance to have fun, share our town, and show the spirit of Julia Creek.”
With a population of less than 400, the economic – and morale – boost that hosting 2,000 fun-loving visitors brings to Julia Creek cannot be underestimated.
“Events like Dirt n Dust are lifeblood moments for remote places,” Ms Pratt said. “We’re estimating an economic impact in excess of $1.5 million for our town across the weekend.
She says that the ‘dollars will stay in the region, and the visitor’s memories will last a lifetime’.
“Dirt n Dust is about community, courage, and a good dose of Outback humour,” said Ms Pratt. “Just hope you’re not afraid of lots of laugher with a little mud on the side … we’re raring to go.”
Festival-goers are encouraged to book ahead for the designated festival camping at McIntyre Park, right next to the Julia Creek race track, with easy access to the weekend’s action.
