This iconic town of Winton is earning itself a reputation as being the ‘Hollywood of the Outback’ thanks to several major productions being filmed here, including Nick Cave’s Proposition and Ivan Sen’s Mystery Road and Goldstone. Since 2019, Total Control, the popular ABC drama series has been filmed in Winton. More recently, the town hosted the mini-series, Texas Rising, with a cast of major Hollywood stars. Inspired by the Sundance Film Festival, this nine-day festival offers visitors a range of high quality films from Australia and around the world screened under the stars in an historic open-air theatre. There are also masterclasses, location tours, and a short film competition for budding independent filmmakers.
