There have been two more nasty accidents involving caravans.
In WA, a 71-year-old woman has been taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA with serious injuries following a crash on the Kwinana Freeway at Baldivis, east of Rockingham.
She was the passenger in a red Kia Sorrento SUV – which was towing a caravan – that was travelling south near Karnup Road, when it crashed.
The 77-year-old male driver was uninjured in the accident, which happened yesterday morning,
Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section are seeking information regarding the circumstances of the crash.
And in Queensland, a caravan crash closed the Bruce Highway after debris was scatterered along the road.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman told the Daily Mercury newspaper that a car towing caravan had crashed on the highway near Bloomsbury, south of Airlie Beach.
The two people in the vehicle were not physically injured in the accident.
Unfortunately, there appears to have been a spate of accidents involving caravans in recent days.
On July 5, a man died and two others were injured, in a crash involving a caravan, truck and ute on the Bruce Highway, north of Brisbane.
And a few days earlier three people died on the Bruce Highway when a bus and caravan collided head-on at Gumlu near Townsville.

It would be informative to know the circumstances surrounding the accidents because it is often not the caravanners fault such as the one involving the bus and van near Gumlu.
In that instance the bus was on the wrong side of the road.
By knowing the cause of these crashes, we can use that information to better protect ourselves on the roads during our travels.
I totally agree Greg O’Brien. We’re in our8 th year on the road fulltime. We’ve Had a few near misses but due to hubbys skill as a driver we have avoided accidents . Everyone just needs to slow done and enjoy the journey doesn’t matter who or what your driving. Better off arriving alive than dead
Yes I would like to know more about the causes. Travelling down M1 to Evans Head recently, watched a large Toyota V8 towing single axle van, they were easily doing 110 and the tail of the van was swaying. Just one misstep and it was goodbye for them.
I would also agree that more info would be nice re caravan related accidents. We as caravan people must be very careful, thoughtful, considerate and courteous to all. Even those who show impatience in an endeavour to help prevent accidents. for eg if you are slow then allow trucks etc to pass by moving off the road when safe, slow down on passing lanes, don’t leave at busy times, get a good camera for your back etc. Only tow if you are experienced. It takes a lot of practice, a lot can go pair shape.
Just a couple of
I agree that it would be good to have more information about these accidents, but not in a way that identifies those involved, who may or may not be guilty of an offence or an error of judgement. I suggest something like a quarterly summary eg
Vehicle mass/loading 3
Inattention 4
Tiredness 2
gas ignition 2
Vehicle faults 4
