The votes have been counted. The results are in. The top three placings in the great Grey Nomads ‘Power’ photo competition have been decided. After travel writer, Steve Jones, slimmed the hundreds of magnificent entries down to a top 10, we invited you to help us choose the winners.
Polling was strong with a good spread of votes for all our finalists. But when the counting was verified and re-verified, the clear winner was ‘Windmill Power’. Many congratulations to the photographer who will win PowerSmart Series™ P3000 generator courtesy of Briggs and Stratton.
Windmill Power … our winning shot

This gorgeous shot in which the depth, texture and colours of the Flinders Ranges are on display in all their magnificence is a worthy winner. The power of the wind and the ancient Australian landscape perfectly captured by a grey nomad at the peak of his photographic powers. Many, many congratulations to our winner.
Barron Falls … our second place getter
Our second place winner is the photographer who submitted ‘Barron Falls’. He/she will win a PowerSmart Series™ P2000 generator.
Steve says: If any photo ever spoke of Mother Nature’s raw power, then this stunning image of Barron Falls in Far North Queensland surely is that photo. The photographer has used great technique to capture the falls’ mighty waters in full flow against the menacing blackness of the stormy tropical sky. Loved it.
Power of the Southern Ocean … our third place winner
Our third place getting was the photographer who submitted ‘Power of the Southern Ocean’. He/she will receive a package of Grey Nomads website merchandise including two Grey Nomads stubby holders and two Grey Nomad bumper stickers.
Steve says: If ever a grey nomad was looking for a reality check in terms if his or her significance in the greater scheme of things, this clever image fits the bill perfectly. While the cliff-crumbling majesty of the Southern Ocean hits you at very first glance, it takes a much closer look to spot the camp of the photographer perched above the proverbial abyss. Both thought provoking and beautifully executed. Well done.
