A West Australian caravan park which closed its doors nearly a decade ago – and later became a haven for drug use and other anti-social behaviour – looks set to finally make a comeback.
The City of Wanneroo on the outskirts of Perth is on the hunt for someone to develop and operate tourist accommodation at the former Quinns Rocks caravan park site.
The expression of interest calls for ‘experienced and capable tourism and caravan park developers and operators’.
Perth Now reports that applicants with ‘demonstrated skills, experience and financial standing’ can submit their interest to develop the site, with consideration to be given to the environment and local community.
This newspaper says this is the next step in the project, following the creation of the Quinns Rocks Caravan Park Community Advisory Group, which helped create the criteria for the Expressions of Interest process to reflect the community’s views.
The group included representatives from community, environment, business, tourism, heritage and cultural sectors.
The Quinns Rocks Caravan Park closed to tourists in 2012 and has recently been used as an overflow car park in the summers … but it was reported earlier this year that it was deteriorating quickly.
City of Wanneroo staff found drug paraphernalia, including homemade bongs, littering the property which overlooks Quinns Beach in Mindarie.
Loved it there as we have family in Quinns. It was sorely missed when it closed.
Be great to see this come to realisation. Anything to remove low life drug users from area’s such as this is a good thing.
Ah, a van park in Western Australia. Is this on the assumption that one day visitors will be allowed back into WA again…
Well said Vulcan
all Too soon with your comments on the old caravan site the Council granted a 21year lease for Glamping at $250 a night shame you didn’t support the residents to keep it as a park
