A man has allegedly driven a car through a tent with two adults and three children sleeping inside at a campground in Tasmania.
Police say the 27-year-old then narrowly missed other camping sites and people in the area before crashing into a tree at West Kentish Road Campgrounds, in the state’s north-west.
The incident happened in the early hours of this morning.
Police told the ABC that the injuries of the people inside the tent range from ‘minor lacerations to suspected internal injuries’.
They were all taken by ambulance to Northwest Regional Hospital for treatment.
“Police have received information that the male was exhibiting anti-social behaviour prior to the crash,” said Acting Sergeant Fabienne Jamieson. “Tasmania Police would like to thank all members of the public that assisted with this incident, as their actions undoubtedly prevented further people from being seriously injured.”
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and are seeking any information from members of the public who were in the area at the time.
