In a new update, Swift Appliances has said that all of its 500 series cookers manufactured before June 1, 2020, can now be used … providing that the front left burner control knob is removed to prevent the use of that burner.
The company stresses that customers should not use the front left burner on cookers manufactured before June 1, 2020.
It says that all Swift 500 series cookers manufactured on or after June 1, 2020, can continue to be used without restrictions.
Swift says that once the front left front left burner control knob has been removed from the earlier models, customer may continue to use the other burners, and the electric hotplate safely.
It says the left control knob can be removed by first ensuring that it is in the ‘off’ position. Then users should grasp it by the edges and pull towards them. The knob should then be stored in a safe place away from children or other users.
Large numbers of grey nomads have faced enormous uncertainty and inconvenience after many models of the Swift 500 Series cooker were subject to a safety recall.
In a previous media statement to a Current Affair, Swift Appliances said it had instigated a nationwide testing program to identify the exact fault in some models of its cooker.
It said it hoped to have more clarity around the repair timeline when it had completed its tests and reported back to the State Regulators with the results.
And in response to complaints about its lack of communication with consumers, Swift Appliances told a Current Affair it was doing what it could.
“We have deployed more internal resources to our customer communication and support processes,” it said. “Many customers have appreciated this. Some haven’t, which we understand, given the concerns that they would understandably have. We share those concerns and have acted upon them.”

The problem is the pipe or something coming apart behind the hot plate so if you turn the gas on for the stove, gas is still going to escape from the broken joint and could go “boom”. We will not be using ours on gas until they have a fix
The problem was the use of an aluminium pipe and not copper for the gas line above the valve. After a period of time aluminium work hardens and fatigues and hence fracturing from constant offeoad corrugation( vibrations). The latest is we can at least use the other 2 x burners except for the front left burner. Slowly but surely the ACCC will sort it out.
They should pay lk car & food companies for us to be able to get it check by professional, test a few does not give us peace of mind that ours is safe, check 6 ours could be the 7th with a problem. Not gd enough Swift.
Me neither & only after talking to the insurance mob
Would love clarity on weather it is all stoves of the Swift 500 before 2020 or only some.
Its all of them.
I’m no expert but how is work taking the knob of doesn’t solve the issue as stated in the other comments
We have a 4 burner without the electric hot plate, I wonder if it is still in the recall?
I have a 502BSP model manufacture date 05/09/2019 serial number 5767 this is not on the list. I have messaged Swift but still no reply whether I can use it. It’s not on the list but people say don’t use it. Can you help me with my problem this unit is still brand new never been installed but ready for installation Thanks Arthur
The fault is in the gas pipe AFTER the control knob to the front left hand burner. If that knob is turned OFF and left OFF, then removed so it can’t be turned back on, there is no risk of gas leak.
I’ve pulled my knob off. Two gas jets & a hotplate will do us. Good enough to boil the kettle first thing in the morning. We cook outside.
A new update AND nothing has changed, how much longer are Swift holding us up.Even suggest we install a gas detector which we had done , golly gosh this amount of time and still same.
Think they want us to get so fed up we will trade ours in and buy a new caravan. Problem solved. Someone making money out of this?
Having put up with months of uncertainty re stove we are considering selling our van and not returning to the rv circus.
Our cooker is Before 2020 and last year as we travelled the griller fittings broke and gas was escaping if we tried to fix it
We took it to a van service centre and when they contacted Swift we were sent a replacement kit for both griller and oven
So we paid to have it repaired as Swift said they would supply parts only so $700 later back on the road
So this year 2022 back on the road the griller fittings broke again and now gas was escaping when any burner was in including the oven
So we spent the last 8 weeks of our off road travel in WA using a little two burner camp stove and luckily we had a Weber baby Q
What have we got to do now
Slow down as you dont have a van for the very rough outback rds so many people dont realise this also pos stove NOT fitted properly seen lots of those travel safe
How long does it take for Swift to come up with a sulution to this problem. It obviously is a fualt in their manufacturing how about they act promptly in a sulution to repair the fault. Why should we the customer have to be put out, what a joke the only answer is take off the knob from the offending burner. It appears that’s their sulution and hope we all just go away. NOT LIKELY
How much longer do we have to wait. We need to sell due to illness.
We just brought a used 2016 caravan with a gas swift fan forced oven, grill, wok & 3 burner top, never used, is that in the recall list
I contacted Swift by phone around April 2022 and was advised by phone that our hot plate was to be recalled. I completed the online form around that same period and have not received any information with regards replacement. I contract swift this morning 24/10/2022 and was advised to re-submit the form again. Not good customer service. I just want it fixed or replaced. They know what the problem is then fix or replace?
They know what the problem is and I feel they have had enough time to design a repair either by replacing the supply pipe with a flexible fitting or alternate material. This has been going on for months, I know things move slowly in Victoria but this delay is ridiculous
Hi
I bought this caravan 2012. My issue, although I have had three strokes, but the swift 500 series was never used when bought new. A while ago my switches on the gas cooker near melted, so i rang swift, they said to remove the middle section on the gas cooker. But yes the gas cookers were on and off, dont know why?
This gas cooker was faulty years ago, but nobody helps to fix it.
