A woman in her 60s has died after she was struck by a reversing camper trailer in Bunbury in West Australia’s south.
Police said it was a ‘tragic incident’, which was not being treated as suspicious.
The ABC reports that emergency services were called to a private property in the suburb of Usher yesterday afternoon.
It appeared the woman had been guiding the trailer for the driver, when she either fell or was knocked to the ground.
The woman was rushed to Bunbury Regional Hospital, but died a short time later.
South-West Inspector Glen Willers expressed sympathy for all involved.

“A gentleman was reversing his camper, as we often do, and his wife was obviously providing directions and his wife has become pinned under the camper,” he told the ABC. “How that has occurred we don’t know at this stage.”
He said it had been a tragic incident.
“We really feel for the people involved, and the extended family, and even the police officers that attended, Inspector Willer said. “You’re never, ever going to get hardened to that sort of thing.”
Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
Inspector Willers told the ABC that major crash officers had carried out a forensic examination, before handing the investigation over to local police.
He urged people not to speculate as to what had happened.
“We’ll try to get to the bottom of it,” he said. “But we certainly don’t want to be passing judgement on anyone at this early stage.”

This is why I will stop moving and fold my arms if I cannot see my wife in any of my mirrors. Tragic mistake.
In all incidents of guiding a driver when reversing any camper or caravan the person giving guiding instructions should be in front of the vehicle not behind. My wife and I have been towing for about 45 years and always do this and have never had any problems. I extend my sympathies to all concerned
The use of a hand held UHF radio to guide the driver means that the guide can always be in constant and instant contact with the driver and stand well clear of the reversing van.
We use this method tuned to a channel not 40 or 18 and in conjunction with our main UHF radio in the tow tug.
Safe and avoids all the yelling and hand waving. Just simple left or right with the back of the van and stop.
