For most caravanners, the biggest thing they worry about when leaving their pride and joy parked on the street is that it will be stolen or perhaps it might pick up a prang … not that it will be taken out by a runaway truck!
But that’s exactly what happened to one shocked owner when an out-of-control vehicle with its extremely heavy load left a trail of destruction on a residential road on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
The ABC reports that the truck had been making a delivery of cement blocks in Alexandra Headland when it took out 10 cars, a caravan, a guard rail, and a letterbox.
Incredibly, no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Former Federal Government minister, Mal Brough, told the ABC that he heard a commotion outside his home.
“I raced to the window to see him race past,” Mr Brough said. “That poor bugger, he was screaming out the window, ‘Got no brakes!’
Mr Brough praised the driver for his quick-thinking.
The ABC reports that the driver had managed to steer the truck, which was careening down the hill in reverse, onto a slightly less steep service street.
“If he [the driver] had continued straight ahead, he would have propelled himself into a house at the other end with enormous energy, and God knows what would have been,” Mr Brough said.
The driver escaped with only minor injuries and declined transport to the hospital.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
There have been a number of unusual incidents involving caravans over the years including vans striking low bridges, vans being blown over in high winds, and even vans being stolen with people sleeping inside. In one incident in 2024, for example, a man actually had to leap from his moving caravan after it was towed off while he was getting sone sleep.
