Australian Antarctic Festival

Location: Hobart waterfront

Aug 22 - Aug 25, 2024

Grey nomads seeking a small taste of life in Antarctica (or sub-Antarctic places such as Macquarie Island) should head to the Hobart waterfront to enjoy this much-loved biennial event. Produced by the Mawson’s Huts Foundation, the first two days of the festival focus on an educative program and is a favourite destination for school groups. The weekend then opens to the public with most events and exhibitions being free-of-charge. There will be interactive displays and exhibits from the Australian Antarctic Division and CSIIRO; the chance to stroll among  much of the equipment used in the harsh Antarctic environment; the chance to see more than 10,000 Adélie penguin cut-outs hand-painted by school children from all over Australia; special lectures; and much, much  more.
