The small NSW country town of Murrurundi will celebrate the tradition, skills and grit of stockmen as it hosts the King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge and Bush Festival from September 26-28.
Inspired by early 1900’s Hunter Valley stockman Archie ‘Bung’ McInnes, the event features a huge program of riding, and a whole host of other entertainment including bush poetry and live music.
Organisers say the festival is growing each year, with many visitors staying the weekend at the camping site and enjoying the all the activities, stalls, food and fun over three days.
This year, there will be the opening ceremony, shearing demonstrations, dog high jump and Santos Cutout on the Friday night, along with the Stockman’s Supper, poetry with Murray Hartin, and live music around the campfire with Danny Phegan.

As the weekend progresses, there will be an all-action rodeo with barrel racing, steer rides, mini bulls and poley buckjump, as well as whip-cracking demonstrations.
Live music will be provided by Carrot Bowen and the Collective.
A host of markets will be taking place across the weekend, and a range of food stalls will be available.
